Friends of Wa Sung
by Karen Dea
If you focus on the true meaning of Wa Sung, these annual charitable activities pop up without any hesitation: merit/scholarship awards, charity grants, educational grants, American Cancer Society forums, July 4th community picnic and Christmas toys for children. This is the mission of community service that Wa Sung, a non-profit organization, is committed to toward the community. In 2006, a substantial number of participants took the opportunity to touch and be touched by donating $250.00 each to be part of these charitable activities by proudly participating in Friends of Wa Sung. Collectively, they donated $3900.00, which cost them .34 cents a day! Here are the touching benefits in supporting the Wa Sung Charity Fund:
- Merit/Scholarship Awards (provides on average $12,000+ a year)
- Charity Grants (a jumpstart toward East Bay community service projects)
- Educational Grants ( schools, science & students programs are rewarded)
- American Cancer Society (Caregiver & Cancer Awareness Programs to the Asian community)
- July 4th Picnic (free community picnic for Wa Sung members & friends)
- Santa's Visit (celebrating with carols, and toys with Santa visiting over 120 children)
In appreciation of the Friends of Wa Sung, free event tickets and special VIP recognition were provided to them at the 2006 "A Chef's Delight" event!
